Community fridge
Coming soon! Chippenham’s first ever community fridge - a space to build community, share food and reduce waste!
Surplus food will be donated by local supermarkets, independent shops, cafes and restaurants in Chippenham and stored at our community fridge for anyone to take and use for free.
It’s that simple.
Preventing food waste together
Annually the UK throws away over six million tonnes of edible food - a truly staggering amount of waste.
Community fridges help to distribute this surplus food to anyone who can use it, tackling food waste one meal at a time! Anyone can access a community fridge - there is no registration or membership, just an invitation to help prevent local food from going to waste.
Our community fridge is in partnership with the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre and is part of the Community Fridge Network coordinated by Hubbub, joining over 700 across the UK. It has been funded by Chippenham Town Council.
Access surplus food!
We encourage all residents to make use of our Community Fridge when it launches in 2026, no matter your situation.
Location
It will be located at The Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, Cocklebury Rd, Chippenham SN15 3QN.
Opening hours
The fridge will be located inside the History Centre, open 10am – 4pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
Please note that our community fridge has not launched just yet - it is expected to go live soon in 2026!
Available food
The available food depends on what is donated to us and can include a wide range of fresh produce, fruit and veg, bread and cupboard items.
Donate surplus food!
If you’re a local business that can donate in-date, edible and good quality surplus food, we really want to hear from you!
After checking suitability, our volunteers can arrange a regular collection from your premises, or you can drop off food yourself when the fridge is open.
Please complete the contact form below giving as much detail as possible and we’ll be in touch.
